One commenter says a universal basic income will only happen in 'magic unicorn land'.

Judging from the amount of news and official initiatives for a universal basic income in Canada, it could be that Canada will become a "magic unicorn land" soon. 

But, in reality, a universal basic income is already implemented in many places. See, for example, these:
